Meet the Founder

From a young age, Michael, raised in a military family in Gulfport, Mississippi, felt a deep calling to become an attorney and advocate for the vulnerable. This passion ignited in the fourth grade when he uncovered an unjust suspension of a classmate and diligently exonerated them.

Formative Years

Throughout his youth, Michael witnessed injustices, particularly concerning police abuse of authority, fueling his dedication to a legal career defending those without a voice. During high school, he gained practical experience as a clerk for the county and a local law firm.

Academic Pursuits

After a year at junior college, Michael earned a B.A. in international studies, emphasizing East Asia, global peace and security, and a minor in Mandarin Chinese from the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss). His pursuit of international affairs led him to Peking University in Beijing, China, before attending law school in San Diego.

Diverse Experience

During law school, Michael secured a legal fellowship on Capitol Hill with the late U.S. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's Office, focusing on critical issues. Post-graduation, he served as a law clerk for the United States Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, specializing in various legal disciplines.

Dedication to Justice

In 2014, Michael joined the San Diego County Public Defender's Office, spending a decade representing indigent clients and conducting over 50 jury trials. His relentless advocacy earned him recognition with the esteemed William Fletcher Award in 2016.

Community Engagement

Beyond his legal career, Michael actively participates in San Diego County's philanthropic endeavors, contributing to initiatives addressing critical social issues and citizen-police interactions.

A sports enthusiast and avid cook, Michael resides in Vista with his wife, Vanessa, their son, and their two beloved dogs, Brutus and Snowball.
